A bundle of bamboo designed as a ‘bee hotel’!

Wildlife Gardens

The wildlife garden is relatively new and was created by Head Gardener Gary Long to attract indigenous animals and insects.

Rather than being planted with decorative shrubs and bushes, the garden has a number of specially arranged elements. These include log piles for hedgehogs and insects, Buddleia to attract butterflies, a natural hay meadow to encourage wild flowers, mice, dragonflies and other insects, a bundle of bamboo designed as a ‘bee hotel' to attract solitary bees searching for somewhere to stay, bat boxes and a barn owl box.

The frog-shaped pond is the garden's focal point. Designed by pupils at Probus Primary School as part of a competition organised by Gary Long, it has proved very successful in attracting a huge variety of wildlife to the garden.
