Camellia season starts now!

Camellia are generally seen as spring flowering shrubs. Down here in mild Cornwall spring tends to start earlier add in the fact that Camellia sasanqua and its hybrids, alongside several Camellia species, naturally flower in autumn we have Camellia in flower from October right through to the end of June (sometimes either side of these months as well!)

December is "Mid season" for us and marks the change over from the autumn flowering varieties to the spring flowering ones. Some blur those lines. Like Camellia japonica 'Nobilissima' which regularly flowers anytime from November onwards!

Camellia 'Winter's Snowman' is a hybrid that is grown as much for its bright red new growth as it is for is autumn flowering double white flowers.
