Join us for our Spring Celebration
On Saturday 15th February, explore Cornwall's Spring Story, witness our Champion Magnolia bloom count, and experience the gardens just as they burst into spring.
Pre-Season Spring Celebration
Join us on Saturday 15th February, for a special pre-season Spring Celebration at Trewithen Gardens. This exclusive event offers our season ticket holders a first glimpse of the gardens’ awakening as buds and bulbs begin to bloom, ahead of our official season opening on 1st March. If you’re not yet a season ticket holder, you’re warmly invited to join us to explore the gardens.

Cornwall’s Spring Story
This day will be a celebration of Cornwall’s Spring Story – a magical moment that marks the arrival of spring in England. Toby Ashworth, of The Nare Hotel, founded the story to draw attention to the fact that, thanks to Cornwall's mild, sub-tropical climate, spring really does arrive here first. When six Champion Magnolia campbellii trees from six of the Great Gardens of Cornwall (Trebah, Trewidden, Caerhays, Heligan, Tregothnan, and Trewithen) each display 50 blooms, spring is officially declared. At Trewithen, you’ll have the opportunity to join Head Gardener Gary Long on a guided walk to our Champion Magnolia tree. Gary will share the story of this remarkable tradition, and together, we’ll conduct a group count of its blooms.
Last year, spring was declared on 16th February, so it should be very exciting timing!

Laying Roots
In addition to the garden walk, the first 20 season ticket holders for our 2025 season will have the unique opportunity to plant a tree in the gardens. Gary Long and the garden team will be leading this from 9am until 11am and those invited to plant a tree have been contacted directly. Everyone else is more than welcome to watch and pick up a few tree planting tips, or spend this time exploring the gardens at your leisure.
