Plant of the month, October
Camellia reticulata seed pod
Camellia reticulata was first introduced to the UK in 1820. The great Plant Hunter George Forrest introduced the single pink or "wild form" in 1924 which are the ones we have growing in the garden here on Camellia Walk. The plantings around the Tea Shed lawns are a mix of selected plants grown from seed of the original plants and some named hybrids which we use and enter at the various spring flower shows.
They flower reliably well and most years set a good crop of seed, which look like mini Pumpkins!
